Frequently Asked
Questions
Does my child need a car seat? All children must use a car seat until they are 12 years old or 135cm tall, whichever comes first. Their seat must be suitable for their age, height and weight.
How do I fit my child's car seat? The seat's installation can vary depending on the type of seat and your vehicle. Check the car seat's instructions
Can I get my car seat checked? Yes! Come and see the Child Seat Safety team at one of our free Check Events where we can check the seat, the child and give you advice.
Has my child outgrown their seat? It is important to keep an eye on your child's height and weight. Your car seat will tell you the height/weight specifications in their instructions, or on the side of the seat itself. Double check your child is suitable for the seat's limits.
What type of car seat do I need? With so many car seats available to choose from, it can be overwhelming to know which one is best for you and your little one. Head to the 'Choosing the right seat' page for more in-depth advice on how to choose your perfect seat.
I have been involved in an accident - should I replace my car seat? If a child’s car seat is in the vehicle during a collision, it is generally advised to replace the seat, even if there is no visible damage. This is because it is difficult to judge how severe the damage could be within the seat. In some cases, the purchase of a new seat can be covered by insurance, so check with your car insurance company if they can help towards the cost of a new seat. For more information on whether your seat needs replacing, contact your car seat's manufacturer.
